ABOUT
THE FOUNDATION
The Jeffrey A. Schwebel Memorial Foundation solely benefits
the One Step At A Time Camp. This extraordinary camp is for
children, ages 7-19, who are battling cancer or leukemia.
Our non-profit foundation was started nine years ago in
memory of Jeff Schwebel, who was a childhood cancer survivor
and former One Step camper and counselor. This camp greatly
enhanced Jeff’s life and continues to enhance the lives of
the children who attend it.
To
give you a little background information, The One Step Camp was
founded in 1978. It is held annually every July for two weeks at
the George Williams Campus in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The
philosophy of this summer camp is to provide a normal childhood
experience to children undergoing treatment, as well as those
whose treatment has ended. The first year of the camp, 40
children attended. Now the camp hosts over 275 children in
multiple program formats. The remarkable thing about this camp
is it is run solely by volunteers and entirely supported by
private founding.
The
Jeffrey A. Schwebel Memorial Foundation has grown into the
largest third party donor to the One Step Camp. Our sole
fundraising event is our annual golf outing, The Player
Invitational. Since 2001, the proceeds from this single annual
event have allowed us to donate over $194,000 to the One Step
Camp.
Our
mission is to create the “best little golf event” in
Southeastern Wisconsin, while raising money, and creating
awareness for a great cause. We donate every penny we raise,
after event expenses, to the One Step Camp. Unlike many
charitable organizations, we operate with zero overhead and zero
administration costs and just like the One Step Camp, our Board,
Event Committee, and Staff are completely volunteer-based.
